The Northern Virginia Table Tennis Club: What: History
The Northern Virginia Table Tennis Club was established in 1989 as a group of amateur table tennis
players that meet on a regular basis to practice and play table tennis.
Originally the Arlington Table Tennis Club, the club changed its name to
the "Northern Virginia Table Tennis Club" in 2005 and created a Arlington
County Chapter and a Fairfax County Chapter.
Members meet up to 6 days per week at either the
Madison
Community Center or Gunston Community Center
in Arlington Virginia. The club also sponsors
several tournaments per year, with trophies awarded to the top players in
each category (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced).
One of the original
founders of the club was Jack Marks.
Back in the 1970s the earlier incantation of the Northern Virginia Table
Tennis club played at various locations in Fairfax and Tysons Corner
Virginia. Probably the most famous member of this organization was two
time Olympian and 5 time US national table tennis champion Sean O'Neill.
Sean now lives in Portland Oregon, but has friends and family in the
Northern Virginia area and enjoys giving table tennis workshops.
